2020 - Found San Pancho - Eric Lombardi

They call it San Pancho, though officially it is San Francisco, tucked along the lush coast of Nayarit. When I moved here, I thought I was chasing a beach. What I found instead was a rhythm—something slower, warmer, and deeply human.

Mornings begin softly. The early light catches an old woman sweeping the dust from in front of her small shack, her movements steady, almost meditative. Down by the shore, the curling break crashes like distant thunder, the Pacific announcing itself with every wave. By midday, life gathers under beach umbrellas—circles of friends reading, talking, dozing, swimming—stretching time into something generous.

At the heart of it all is Plaza del Sol. By day, it’s a living mosaic: children drumming, elders resting in the shade, locals and foreigners weaving in and out of conversation. At night, it transforms—huge vine-covered trees cast long shadows, and figures drift through like a quiet performance.

Evenings belong to the street. The main road becomes a kind of linear plaza, where families stroll down the center as kids play and squeal well past sunset. Street tacos are eaten on rickety chairs beside cobblestones, cars bouncing past just feet away. Vendors—young and old—trek the hot sand all day, selling handmade crafts or plastic trinkets, chasing a modest sale with quiet determination.

There’s a raw, unpolished harmony here. Homes of every shape and means sit side by side, and a natural equality hums beneath daily life. Stray dogs roam freely, unofficial stewards of the town, claiming both beach and affection.

At Entreamigos, that spirit becomes tangible—a place where children and adults learn, create, and gather. It’s a reminder that San Pancho isn’t just a destination. It’s a community that invites you, gently, to belong.
